It may have been only two days this year, but for the 60th Pioneer Days celebration those days provided a break from the usual routine.
Exhibits were set up at McClintic Library, the Community Wellness Center and the Pocahontas County Op-era House, showcasing artwork, quilts, baked goods and locally grown flowers.
There was no shortage of parades or entertainment. Parades for children and pets, firemen and, of course, the Grand Feature Parade, filled downtown Marlinton with joy as the crowd cheered on friends, family, student organizations and local businesses who decorated floats, drove a variety of vehicles or marched through the town.
The Discovery Junction stage was the place for music throughout the festival. Saturday night’s entertainment was the southern rock sounds of Amos Steel, a band, founded by Pocahontas County’s own John Compton.
Pioneer Days is a time for reunions with old friends, a celebration and a time to share stories about how things used to be in Pocahontas County.
It’s also a time to showcase the many talents and the works of the people who live here.
Those who participated are appreciated and are an example of what makes Pocahontas County so special.
