Preserving Pocahontas wishes you and yours Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! A photo taken in the winter of 1974 shows the newly restored Pearl S. Buck Birthplace in Hillsboro. Pearl Sydenstricker Buck, author of “The Good Earth” for which she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Literature (1932), was born here at the Stulting Place on June 26, 1892. In 1938, she received further distinction when she became the first American woman to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature, based on her six books on China. Photo courtesy of the Pearl S.
