Retired State Trooper First Class Timothy Dale McDaniels, age 61, and Shawn Marie “Shunk” Cruikshank McDaniels, age 59, both of Marlinton, died Friday, November 27, 2015, at their home.
Born May 16, 1954, in Lorain, Ohio, Tim was a son of Julia Rose White McDaniels and the late S. D. McDaniels.
Born September 26, 1956, in Selma, Alabama, Shawn was a daughter of Rev. Robert and Sharon Cruikshank.
Tim and Shawn were married January 5, 1994. Together they enjoyed traveling, playing scrabble and pulling pranks on family and friends.
Tim was a retired West Virginia State Trooper who served from 1978 to 1991. He was wounded in the line of duty and received a Purple Heart. He was also a member of the Retired State Troopers Association and the F.O.P State Police Lodge #107.
Shawn worked for several businesses in Marlinton. She was an avid supporter of her husband’s involvement in the State Troopers Association.
In addition to his father, Tim was preceded in death by a brother, Steven D. McDaniels.
Shawn was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Cruikshank, II.
The couple is survived by Tim’s mother, Julia Rose McDaniels; Shawn’s parents, Rev. and Mrs. Robert Cruikshank; two daughters, Autumn Valine, and husband, Ernest, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Hollie McDaniels-Riner, and husband, Jason, of Norfolk, Virginia; a son, Bradley McDaniels, of Marlinton. They share five grandsons, Aaron, Dustin, Hayden, Tripp and Dalton; three granddaughters, Halie, Tipper, and Elizabeth. They had a special bond with their nieces and nephews who were often recipients of their well-planned shenanigans.
Tim is survived by two brothers, Rev. Ed McDaniels, and wife, Janet, of French Creek, and Scott McDaniels, and wife, Leisa, of West Minster, Maryland; and a sister, Laura Page, and husband, Mike, of Buckhannon.
Shawn is survived by a sister, Deborah Hudson.
Family will receive friends Saturday, December 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Christian Fellowship Church, 56 Fellowship Way, Buckhannon. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. at the church with Chaplain Jim Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Dale Cemetery in Selbyville.
