Marlinton Town Council had a short meeting Monday night. Of the six items on the agenda for consideration, five were tabled for further discussion at a special meeting to be held Monday, March 23.
The one item council did act on was appointing Chris Curry to fill the council seat left vacant by Tina Barkley when she became the town recorder.
Council had guests from the Woodlands Development and Lending organization out of Elkins who spoke about the programs they offer to entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Deputy director Karen Jacobson and loan officer Tena Crites presented packets of information to council and talked about the businesses and organizations they have helped in Pocahontas County, including Old Mountain Tavern, Mountain Echo and the Pocahontas County Opera House.
Jacobson said she wanted to make a connection with council because the organization wants to do more work in the county to help the communities flourish.
Mayor Sam Felton thanked Jacobson and Crites for attending the meeting and for sharing information about their organization.
Marlinton Town Council meets the first Monday of each month, excluding holidays, at 7 p.m. in the municipal building auditorium. The public is welcome to attend in person or online through a Zoom link.
