With just one item under new business on its agenda, Marlinton Town Council made it an early night Monday.

Before addressing that one item, Mayor Sam Felton opened the floor to Chase Riley, of Thrasher Group, to give an update on the sewer, water and storm system project in both Marlinton and at Beard Heights.

Riley said he delivered the preliminary plans, which included sewer system profiling. The next step is to have the storm system profiling for review.

As for Beard Heights, Riley said he went to see the current plant that is used by Pocahontas Memorial Hospital and other businesses in the area. He said the next step for the project is to have a Geotech do a survey of the ground of the new site for the system.

Riley estimated that the plans for the entire project will be available for review next month.

The town of Marlinton took over ownership and operation of the sewer and water system at Beard Heights and is in the process of replacing the system.

In discussing the one agenda item, a proposed agreement for the Marlinton Sidewalks Transportation Alternatives project, Felton said this is the contract between the town of Marlinton and the Department of Highways to upgrade the sidewalks in town.

There were changes made due to the work that has already been completed by the DOH.

Felton said he had a meeting the next day (Tuesday) to go over the contract with the DOH and council voted to give him permission to sign the contract at that meeting so the town can move forward with the sidewalk project.

Marlinton Town Council meets the first Monday of each month, excluding holidays, at 7 p.m. in the municipal building auditorium. The public is welcome to attend in person or online through a Zoom link.
