Two jury trials were recently held in Pocahontas County Circuit Court:
In the case the State vs Arnold Schoolcraft, 42, of Marlinton, the jury found the defendant guilty of Count I of the indictment – counterfeiting; and guilty as to Count II – unlawful assault on a law enforcement officer. Schoolcraft’s bond was revoked, and he was remanded to custody. The matter was referred to the probation department for a pre-sentence investigation report. Sentencing is set for October 23.
A five-day jury trial was held in the case the State vs Luke Gum, 37, of Dunmore, wherein the jury returned a verdict of not guilty to Count IV, the felony offense of sexual abuse in the first degree; and not guilty to Counts V, VI and VIII, the felony offense of sexual assault in the first degree. Based upon the jury failing to reach a verdict as to Counts III, VII, IX and X, the court ordered that those Counts shall remain on the trial docket of this Court.
