Victoria Elizabeth “Betty” Gum peacefully passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025, at her home with her family by her side.
Born September 17, 1940, in Marlinton, she was a daughter of the late Loren Jordan and Alma Sheets Jordan.
Betty enjoyed working as a cook at the Green Bank School for more than 33 years. One of her greatest joys was time spent with children, whether it was serving them at the school or teaching Sunday School, she enjoyed every moment she had with them.
Betty loved to cook, garden, crochet and knit. She gifted many with her talents. No one left her house empty handed or hungry. Betty made 850 blankets for the NICU at WVU hospital, knitted chemo hats, and lap blankets for the residents at Pocahontas Center.
She loved playing games with family and friends and was known to be very competitive.
Betty was blessed to have friends that became Family of the Heart, Susan and John Jenkins, Kay Blackshire and Sandy McCarty. The family is forever grateful for the love and care they provided.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Jordan; Donald Gum, the father of her three children; and Ernest Galford, her companion of many years.
Betty is survived by her three children, DC Gum (Jody), of Montpelier Virginia, Mark Gum (Sandi), of Raeford, North Carolina, and Donna Yost (Steve), of Morgantown; seven grandchildren, Lynsay Natal, Rachel Gum, Heather Tenner, Jessica Gum, Chelsea Strother, Amy Yost and Joseph Yost; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Jessie Jordan (Bonnie), of Telford Pennsylvania; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Jordan, of Sacramento, California.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the New Hope Church of the Brethren in Frost with Julian Rittenhouse officiating.
