To you and yours, peace on earth at Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We have the ingredients for both.
How we handle these ingredients determines the outcome.
I want to thank our Pocahontas County Commission, once again, for granting the request for a one-time donation of $60,000 on behalf of Pocahontas County’s two Mon Forest Towns. This seed money will help bring about the vision for moving both Towns in a positive direction. Rest assured, the trust given to Woodlands and the MFTP to properly handle and multiply this funding will not be in vain. This commitment is not just Christmas coming early for the towns of Durbin and Marlinton. These funds can enable the first steps leading to a series of Happy New Years. It will not happen overnight.
What is your vision?
For now, each Town has $30,000 in the bank. It will not be spent willy-nilly. It must be used as an investment for the future. We all want our projects completed in the first six-months or a year. It seldom happens that way. Pray for individual committee members who are willing to commit two, three or four years of their life and who want to see their communities improve.
Each will have to come together and work out the best options. Plan your work – Work your plan. Bring forward a project the town council can support. Understand, the project will have the support of The Mon-Forest Towns Partnership. Both entities will have to agree the project makes sense, is doable, and has a grant opportunity that fits, before funds will be available.
Here is where the MFTP grant-writer shines. Trust her. She is very deliberate and specific in her approach to fulfilling an application. That is why she has been so successful. She understands the process and will not risk her own credibility by being hurried through the process without all the information. It is not just about filling out paperwork – it is actually about receiving the award.
The goal will be to leverage each dollar to the maximum amount.
Stronger Towns for a Stronger State.

Happy New Year ~ Help is on the way.
