Thursday, September 17, 1925

On Monday, the water level in the town wells got so low that it became necessary to fill the tanks from Knapps Creek. This was accomplished by hitching a tractor to the pumps at the dam in the East end of Marlinton. It will be a day or two before this water can be chlorinated. While there may be no danger from typhoid, as a precautionary measure, it would be just as well to boil all drinking water this week. By next week it is expected to have the water wheel in motion. As this is written there yet remains a few feet of pipe to be laid in the tunnel. The pipe in the tunnel is laid in concrete at the joints, and it requires some days for this concrete to harden.

Miss Virginia Foulk, county superintendent of Cabell County, made a brilliant address at the Kiwanis club last Friday night. It was “Educational Night.” Miss Foulk took for her text, “there were giants in those days.” She spoke of Jefferson, Hamilton, Clay, Calhoun, Webster and Lincoln as giants among statesmen in the formative period of our nation. In this day of education for all the children of all the people there is felt the need of leaders in the field of education who will stand out like the giants of those early days of our nation. Miss Anna Wallace, county superintendent, and G. D. McNeill, town superintendent, also spoke and voiced their appreciation of the helping had extended by Kiwanis.

THURSDAY – Second night of “The Thundering Herd.” If you missed this picturization of Zane Grey’s greatest novel last night, this is your chance. “It’s great,” was the verdict of the Wednesday night crowd.

FRIDAY – “The Little French Girl.” From the popular novel of the same name. Another of our good Paramount Pictures.

Saturday – The greatest laughiest Raymond Griffith, the funny man with the silk hat in “Forty Winks,” supported by Theodore Roberts and Viola Dana.

Also, “Nobody Works But Father.” This show is for laughing purposes only. We absolutely guarantee it to produce the goods.

TUESDAY – Look who we have here, Tom Mix in “The Deadwood Catch.” Our old friend Tom back again in a real Western. Don’t forget that he has Tony the Wonder Horse with him.
