The Pocahontas County High School Warriors tracked down the Tucker County Mountain Lions Friday night at home in the first game of the season.

The Warriors started the season off on the right foot with a their game winning score of 40-6.

Senior Shane Peacock was on fire that night, scoring three touchdowns for the Warriors. Senior Briar Wilfong was hot on his heels with two touchdowns, and senior Logan Dilley scored a touchdown and added four of six extra points.

The defense was in it to win as well with junior JD Sharp grabbing two interceptions, and senior Mark Jordan coming down hard on the Mountain Lions with eight tackles, an interception and a sack.

Coach Doug Burns had great things to say about his team, and has great expectations for them and for himself
“I am super excited about these guys,” Burns said. “They are truly a great bunch. I felt good about them, even before we played that game. They practiced hard, and studied film, and really worked hard to get where they are today. We plan to continue improving our skills, and I plan to stay diligent with my leadership and give these guys everything I’ve got, so I will expect nothing less from them.”

The Warriors will take on the Moorefield Yellow Jackets this Friday night at Warrior field. Kickoff at 7 p.m.
