Pocahontas County Lady Warriors Soccer played only one game last week.

The Warriors took on the Nicholas County Grizzlies Tuesday at home.

It was also PCHS Senior Night. This year’s senior soccer players are Catlyn Sparks and Briana Mills.

Out on the field, the Warriors and Grizzlies were tied, 1 to 1, at half-time.

Things changed in the second half, when the Lady Warriors scored two goals and Nicholas scored one.

The Lady Warriors racked up another win on the season with the final score of 3 to 2.

The Warriors had 24 shots on goal, three of which resulted in goals scored, compared to Nicholas County’s nine shots on goal.

Scorers were forwards and midfielders, sophomore Laila Calhoun, freshman Savannah McMillion and junior Marlee McLaughlin.
Assists on these goals came from sophomores Elizabeth Hefner and Kira Bircher, and McMillion.

Additional shots on goal were from Bircher, Hefner, and fellow sophomores Alexa Taylor and Cloey Sharp, junior Brianna Hefner, and Sparks.

Defenders and midfielders, Hefner and sophomores Emily Casto, Amelia Rose and Sage McLaughlin, cleared the ball out of the backfield 28 times and, along with Hefner, made a total of 17 throw-ins.

Goalkeeper junior Kayla Sharp saved five goals and allowed two.

The Lady Warriors’ record now stands at four wins, two ties, and six losses. The Lady Warriors have one regular-season game remaining. They will play Wyoming East at Beckley October 12 at 6:30 p.m.
