McNabb honored at Pocahontas Center

Pat McNabb, of Pat’s Beauty Shop, was honored at a special event at Pocahontas Center on Valentine’s Day. Staff, residents, family and friends gathered to share stories about the contributions McNabb has made to the community. It was a toe-tapping good time as Appalachian Country Cloggers led residents in a square dance. McNabb danced with ACC caller Eugene Ratcliff as part of the celebration. Susie Landis and Sarah Sanders put together a basket of gifts for the occasion that included everything from beautician and gardening tools to flowers and candy. McNabb has been “beautifying” the area since the 1950s, and continues to do so today – at her shop on Ninth Street, and one day a week at Pocahontas Center. She continues to work on the farm, as well - raising sheep and cattle and making hay. B. Nottingham photos
